What exactly is Raw Hair?
Raw hair is 100% unprocessed hair collected from one donor. This means that to make a bundle/100g of hair extension, the hair is cut off from one person. It is hair that has not been altered or chemically/steamed processed in any way. Unlike virgin hair which has been processed to give a finer/sleeker texture and pattern, raw hair comes in its most natural state.
Raw hair is the highest quality of hair on the market as it is 100% natural. All the cuticles are aligned and it is the purest and most natural hair on the market. It is mostly sourced from Asian countries, more specifically India, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, etc. It is possible to get raw hair from European countries but this is relatively scarce and very expensive.
Here at Perfect Perucas, all our wigs are made with 100% pure raw Indian hair.
It’s been said that the “downside” to raw hair is the unavailability of variety. But we at Perfect Perucas say that’s what makes it exclusive and unique. Unlike virgin hair where numerous processed hair patterns abound (tight curl, kinky curl, loose wave, body wave, deep wave, water wave, etc), Indian hair comes in 3 main natural, unprocessed hair patterns; straight, wavy and curly. It is imperative to note that no two bundles are the same. They are similar but not identical. For example, in the pictures shown below for the indian straight hair, each bundle has a different pattern even though they are all straight. Notwithstanding, once it's installed as a sew-in or a wig, it is not noticeable as each bundle blends seamlessly.
STRAIGHT WAVY CURLY
Below are some of the features of Raw Indian hair:
- Raw Indian hair is 100% natural hair with no chemicals or manipulation whatsoever. Hence, it acts like your own natural hair. What this means is that indian hair requires maintenance just like your own natural hair in order to retain moisture and shine. Your raw hair will also react to weather elements just like your own hair. E.g in humid temperatures, raw hair can look frizzy and poofy.
- Indian hair requires moisture alot. Especially the wavy and curly hair. Depending on how often you wear your wig, its recommended to co-wash it bi-weekly, and apply a leave in conditioner every 2-3 days.
- Indian hair is coarse in nature. Unlike virgin hair that looks super sleek with high sheen, indian hair has a medium lustre and feels "rough" to touch at first. Don't be scared. The coarse nature of the indian hair is exactly why we love it....because it looks natural and holds a curl for days!!
- Indian hair is pliable. This means that different washing and styling techniques will result in different hair patterns. For example, the picture below shows how the indian straight hair is styled differently:
- Indian hair speaks. LOL. I'm sure you're wondering what that means. It means that once your indian hair starts to snag/feel tangly, then it's time for a wash. If you haven't been using a lot of products in your hair, then a good co-washing will set things right. But if you do need to use a shampoo, a moisturizing shampoo is best. Infact, ensure every product you use on your indian hair is moisturizing.
- Before investing in any of the indian hair patterns, the first question you should ask yourself is " how much maintenance am i willing to do?". If you are a newbie or you want minimal maintenance, then it's best to go for Raw Indian straight. The more time you can dedicate to maintaining your hair, the higher you chances of choosing curlier textures.
