WASHING YOUR PERUCAS

WASHING YOUR PERUCAS

Statistics has shown that 8 out of 10 women have no idea on how to wash their wigs. Storing your wig correctly and with the proper care can go a long way towards preserving and ensuring that it continues to look its best for years to come. Although it may seem like a Herculean task, it is relatively easy to do if you follow the guidelines below:

How to wash & condition your Perucas

  • Brush and detangle the wig properly before attempting to dip in water
  • Wet the hair thoroughly with lukewarm water.
  • Shampoo the hair from the root to tip, using your fingers to distribute the product all over your wig.
  • Rinse well.
  • Repeat the shampoo process depending on how much product build up is on the hair/how dirty it is.
  • Towel dry the hair to remove the excess water.
  • Use a deep conditioner/masque of your choice. (If you aren't deep conditioning, a regular conditioner will work). The keyword here is "generous". Apply it generously, starting from the tips and working your way up to the roots (avoid the weft) using your fingers to distribute the product.
  • Wrap hair in a shower cap or a cling film and then wrap the bundle in foil. This creates some sort of heat..its like you're steaming the hair. (If using a regular conditioner, you don't need to wrap the wig. Just apply and leave for just 5 minutes)
  • Leave it in a warm place for up to 30 mins.
  • Remove the foil and cling film and rinse thoroughly. Ensure all the product has been rinsed out! If not, the hair will feel heavy when dry and won't flow.
  • Spray some leave in conditioner for added moisture & some lightweight oil (argan oil) to the hair, focusing on the ends.
  • If washing curly hair, use a Denman/Paddle brush to work your way around the hair. This helps to redefine the curls.
  • Leave to air dry. If it's a wig, dry on mannequin to preserve the shape of the wig
  • Style as desired.
